A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed by All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) and University College London (UCL) on Saturday. The MoU has been signed to explore areas of collaboration including, research oriented activities, staff and student exchange programme, research fellowship programme, workshops and other events related to medical Sciences.
Director of AIIMS Randeep Guleria told IANS that,
- Research-based study will be conducted
- Focus on environment and it’s effects on Indians, for which the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi has been roped in.
UCL President, Michael Arthur said,”Pollution is a rising concern in India. The research will focus on impact of environment, particularly pollution, on the health of pregnant women, lungs and maternal health.”
AIIMS has joined the International Centre for Genomic Medicine in Neuromuscular Diseases (ICGMN), led by UCL as a part of the ongoing research collaboration.
The ICGMN together brings skills and resources from five different countries named, India, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Turkey and South Africa.
To advance the genetic diagnosis and therapy for patients with muscle wasting neuromuscular disease, including motor neuron disease and muscular dystrophy is the main aims of ICGMN.
