According to the reports, the Naxals triggered cane bones in the BJP office around 12:30 in the night. BJP leader Arjun Munda, the candidate from the Kunti constituency in the Lok Sabha polls and former Jharkhand Chief Minister functioned out of the Kharsawan BJP office.
Kharsawan is a part of Kunti parliamentary constituency. The Kunti parliamentary constituency is reserved for members of Scheduled Tribes (ST). Kariya Munda, a BJP leader is a sitting member of parliament from this constituency.
The general elections for 2019 have seen Naxal attacks in various parts of the country. Two days earlier Naxal attack in Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra claimed lives of 16 people including 15 policemen and one driver. The Naxals triggered an IED blast near Lendali Nullah in Jamburkheda village in Gadchiroli.
The Naxals triggered an improvised explosive device to blow up a police vehicle that was carrying 15 security personnel from the Kurkheda OQuick Response team of Gadchiroli police. The attack was deeply condemned by Prime minister Narendra Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadavis.
In previous such incident, BJP MLA Bhima Mandavi lost his life along with 4 others who were in a vehicle. The incident took place in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada on April 9 when a convoy of the BJP legislative was attacked. The incident took place two days before the commencement of the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
The Kunti parliamentary constituency will go to polls in the fifth phase of Lok Sabha elections on May 6. The results for the 17th Lok Sabha election should be announced on May 23.
