Even though sports and physical education is a part of curriculum in many schools, still many are not aware of the benefits of sports. It has also not been accepted as a viable career option by many people in our country.
Thus to create a sports environment and awareness about the same, PM Narendra Modi launched Sports Authority of India’s app called Khelo India. It was launched at the Youth Parliament Fest on 27 February 2019. The app contains of three unique features which makes it easier for youngsters to take up a sport and even helps in identifying the champions among the children. It is available in both English and Hindi language.
This section is a guide for beginners and tells the basic information about the rules and regulations of 18 sports.
This section tells the user about the institutions near them where they can go for training. They show SIC facilities, SIC affiliated facilities as well Private facilities.
This section consists of eight tests that the user must to take in order to see their fitness level and also to identify which sport they can excel in. This section has also been designed for the parents so they can monitor their child’s fitness level through it.
Sports Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore was present at the event and said,” Today marks a momentous leap forward for sports in India. The application will revolutionise every aspect of fitness and sports in the country and harness technology to help identify and nurture talent from young age.”
This app ensures that even the children living in rural parts can take part and make something of themselves in the area of sports. If more and more children take part in these activities and nurture their talents, who knows that in the years ahead, India might even turn into a global sporting superpower. This is a vision which the prime minister of our country has and has taken a step towards it.
