In an encounter with District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Special Task Force (STF), two Naxals were killed in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada on Wednesday, May 8. Three Naxalite commanders with their forces were present in 30 tents when the encounter took place. Several more Naxalites are likely to be injured in the fire between the hardcore Naxals and security forces that took place around 5 am in the gonderes jungle near Dantewada and Sukma border, which falls under the Aranpur Police Station in Chattisgarh.
Search and cordon operations are under process out of which an IASAS rifle and a 12 bore weapon were recovered along with the ammunition and Maoist literature.
To execute the counter, the police adopted a special strategy and suspended the mobile network in the Dantewada region and as a result, the Naxals were unable to reach out or pass the information to their fellow cadres. The search operation has been intensified after the encounter and recovery of ammunition from the Naxalites.
Dantewada SP Abhishek Pallava said that District Reserve Female Commandos ‘Danteshwari Ladake’ also took part in the encounter and thirty women including surrendered Naxalites and wives of surrendered cadres were recruited by the commandos. These women were recruited in the all-woman District Reserve Guard platoon in Dantewada region in Chattisgarh.
In the wake of Lok Sabha elections, there have been serious attacks by Naxalites including a dastardly attack by Naxals on the 15 Quick response Personnel team and a driver in Gadchiroli district in Maharashtra with an Improvised Explosive Device. Using a similar IED, Naxals also blasted a vehicle carrying BJP candidate Bhima Mandavi along with four security personnel who lost their lives on the spot.
Naxals and the extremists have been the source of worry because of their successful targets on security forces and election officials in states of Chattisgarh, Maharashtra, and Jharkhand.
