After an alleged attack on the convoy of East Midnapore party president Dilip Ghosh in Khejuri on Tuesday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders have demanded the removal of East Midnapore District Magistrate, West Bengal.
After the address of Amit Shah in the district, Assam deputy Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma and Dilip Ghosh along with the convoy were attacked allegedly by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers while they were returning back from the rally.
Following the attack, a BJP delegation of special Observer Ajay V Nayak, Special Police Observer Vivek Dube, state BJP vice president Jai Prakash Majumdar, and the members of coordination cell moved to the Election Commission on Wednesday and demanded strict action against those who attacked the convoy of the party leaders.
The letter submitted by BJP delegation said, “We strongly demand replacement of the District Magistrate of Purba Midnapore in East Midnapore constituency, Superintendent of Police of Purba Midnapore, SDPO of the area concerned and the inspector-in-charge of Khejuri police station.”
The BJP delegation named Trinamool Congress MLA Ranajit Mondal and supporters for the dastard attack.
The delegation said that “scores of BJP supporters were beaten up mercilessly including BJP candidate Debashish Samanta.” The delegation added that the incident work replants and inclusion with the police. they also added that they have requested for immediate action against Mondal all the culprits who have been easily identified from the video footage that has been submitted to Election Commission.
Senior Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader and state minister Suvendu Adhikari denied any role of party workers after BJP alleged TMC in the attack.
