After the Supreme Court dismissed the plea filed by 21 opposition parties asking for 50 % verification of VVPAT slips earlier today, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu said that he will approach Election commission requesting counting of all the VVPATs in assembly segments in case any discrepancy or mismatch is found in any of the five VVPATs-EVMs.

The TDP chief made his comments to the reporters after the Supreme Court turned down the petition by opposition parties today seeking the direction to increase the random verification of VVPAT from five to at least 50 % of EVMs.

Chandrababu when talking to the reporters expressed his resentment against the use of VVPAT in the election process saying that “we have spent 9,000 crores on VVPAT and even then we cannot use it to make the elections more transparent.” He said that “We are demanding transparency in the system and our review petition has been dismissed.”

The supreme court on Tuesday, May 7 rejected the plea filed by 21 opposition parties that sought the direction to increase the VVPAT verification from 5 to at least 50 percent of EVMs during the counting of votes for free and fair conduct of general elections.

The supreme court directed the Election Commission on April 8 to increase the random matching of VVPAT slips with the EVMs in five polling booth per assembly constituency
