Election Commission on Tuesday rejected the allegations by union textile minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Smriti Irani against booth capturing in Amethi by Congress president Rahul Gandhi who is seeking re-election from his parliamentary constituency for the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.
Chief electoral officer of Uttar Pradesh Venkateshwar Lu dismissed the allegations and said that the charges were found to be baseless. The electoral officer also added that after the complaint was lodged against Congress president Rahul Gandhi, the sector officers, senior officials, and even observers rush to the booths to inquire to the following regions of the political parties and other officials in the polling booth. It was conclusively found that the charges in the video clip fabricated and no such allegations were proved true. “Due to prima-facie allegations in the clip, the presiding officer was summarily removed by the probe was going on.”
Amethi went to post the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 6 the parliamentary constituency has been a bastion of Congress since 1964.

542 parliamentary constituencies in the country witnessing elections in 7 phases. the first five phases for Lok Sabha elections held on April 11, April 18, April 23, April 29, and May 6. The remaining two phases of elections will be held on May12 and May 19.
Results of the Lok Sabha elections 2019 will be announced on May 23.
