In 2015, AAP formed its government in Delhi by winning 67 out of 70 seats in assembly elections. This year, the united opposition hoped that Congress and AAP will form an alliance. But after a two hour long meeting with Rahul Gandhi, Mrs Sheila Dixit said that the State Congress has ‘unanimously’ decided that they will not form an alliance with AAP.
She told NDTV,“It is final that there will be no alliance with AAP. Mr Gandhi has accepted the decision. The Congress will go it alone in all seven seats in Delhi and win.” Even though AAP had already declared candidates for 6 out of seven seats for Delhi Lok Sabha elections, the party was open to negotiations.
Sources stated that AAP was ready to offer 2 seats to congress in Delhi Lok Sabha and also stipulated that they were open for alliance in Punjab but congress wanted 3 seats.
