A Complaint was filed against Communist Party of India Marxist (CPIM) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury for his statement that epics Ramayana and Mahabharata are full of instances of violence and battles while addressing the public in a campaign.

The complaint was filed by Hindu Sangathan President K Karuna Sagar at Sahibabad police station in Hyderabad, Telangana.

On Saturday or similar complaint was filed by yoga Guru Ramdev along with his other seers at Haridwar who claimed that Sitaram Yechury has hurt the sentiments of Hindus by using epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata in a speech in negative emotion.

Sitaram Yechury on Friday said that Hindu mythology books like Ramayana and Mahabharata were filled with instances of violence while he was referring to the claims by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders including the Prime Minister Narendra Modi that Hindu religion cannot indulge in violence.

Hindu Sangathan president K Karuna Sagar said that bringing Hinduism into politics is not right and the epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata have taught how to fight against evil. He added that Sitaram Yechury should have knowledge of the difference between violence and fighting against evil.

He demanded that “Sitaram Yechury should be booked under the sections of 295-A, 153-A, and 504 IPC.”

While Sitaram Yechury was referring to the remarks by Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, the Bhopal candidate from BJP that Hindus do not believe in violence. He said that many kings and principalities have fought battles in the country.

Statement by Yechury has brought serious criticism from Hindu Sangathan, BJP leaders, and even Shiv Sena who demanded that CPM General Secretary should drop his name ‘Sitaram’.
